Seekbeak is Safe from Cloudflare Security Leak + Security Update

Hi gang,

Some of you may have heard about the recent security debacle affecting Cloudflare. Cloudflare is a large IT provider used by millions of websites around the world. Cloudflare provides SeekBeak with super fast image delivery, so your Snaps load as fast as possible anywhere in the world.

The bad news: last week they announced a security vulnerability that potentially affected all their clients, including us.

The good news is that we’ve just heard from Cloudflare: “your domain is not one of the domains where we have discovered exposed data in any third party caches.”. So rest easy, your SeekBeak data, and account password is safe and sound.

In better news, we’ve just rolled over an update which should alleviate some issues a few people were having with a couple models of 360 cameras. The software for these cameras doesn’t export a normal equirectangular 2:1 ratio image, and automatically cropped out the nadir and/or zenith to “tidy” things up. Uploading these panoramas caused all sorts of issues with SeekBeak, with things like floors and skies looking like they’re swirling into an infinite vortex.

SeekBeak now reads the appropriate Exif/XMP/GPano tags from your uploaded images and will use those tags to correct this issue. This is assuming that your camera or software uses these tags, and in our tests so far, the majority do.

That said, Exif/XMP data is a bit of a wild west among camera manufacturers, if you have any images which aren’t behaving, please contact us via the website and let us know!

Finally, I just want to give a big shout out to all our new users, including the various educational and training facilities who have come on board the platform over the past few months. It’s really exciting seeing what you are all doing. I’ve thought from the very beginning that SeekBeak was a perfect match for the training/education sector!

Till next time!
